Bowen therapy?

Q) Has anyone tried Bowen therapy for the treatment of chronic pain? I have atypical facial pain and have had it for around 6 yrs now. My usual drugs are now less effective and I am thinking of trying alternative treatments. I have already tried acupuncture but that was unsuccesful, a friend suggested Bowen therapy but I cant find much on the internet about it. Has anybody tried it and was it successful?

A) I have had Bowen Therapy, and felt quite good afterwards. It is a very different experience. I was laying there wondering how what they were doing would help, but afterwards I definately felt better. I however do not suffer from chronic pain, so I dont know how it would work for you. Perhaps you could look into seeing a naturopath/homeopath in conjuction with a Bowen Therapist, they may have some natural alternatives for pain relief.

A) It is basically a type of massage, the blurb says that it "Helps the body to remember how to heal itself". The muscles are massaged at particular points and this stimulates specific parts of the autonomic nervous system. I have never tried it and I don't know anyone that has, but I have read loads of reports on how it has helped people with many afflictions and illnesses. I have no idea how it could help with conception but as they say...it might be worth trying. Let's face it IVF is no picnic and it's expensive, trying the Bowen for a couple of months would only cost a fraction and you'd probably enjoy it too ;) The web site below gives a more detailed account than I have here of what the Bowen Technique actually is. A) this is a technique developed some time ago by what some would call a hippie! If its pain management youre after, you may be better off finding a good massage therapist, someone who specialises in deep tissue massage, its just my opinion but having experienced both types of treatment, id opt for the more hands on approach every time.

Is Bruce Bowen Overrated? Seriously?!?

Q) Someone recently asked, "Is Bruce Bowen overrated?" How can a guy who's been named to the All-NBA Defensive Team SEVEN times be overrated?! Granted, Bowen's best defensive stops are behind him ... but "overrated?!" The author of this question added that Bowen can't guard LeBron mano-a-mano. This is how many points LeBron, who averaged 27 points-per-game, scored against teams with All-NBA First-Team perimeter defenders (Ron Artest, Bowen, Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Andrei Kirilenko): Jazz: 23, 24. Kings: 34. Lakers: 13, 38. Nets: 19, 35. Spurs: 19, 35. And after last night, 14. There's no guarantee each team's best defender matched-up with LeBron (I doubt the Nets put J-Kidd on him much), but it makes sense that they would at least some of the time. It upsets me when Champ Bailey gets beat deep twice ... Tom Brady throws three picks ... or Bruce Bowen surrenders forty and the "overrated" questions begin. Do I have a case, or am I out of order?

A) You do have a case i mean bowen is great at defense but his best days are behind him that's why he wasn't asked to team usa. I play basketball everyday and after watching him he uses more grabbing and little things that aren't seen by the refs but one on one agianst lebron thier is no way in the world he could guard him lebron is way more powerful even david robinson said he couldn't i mean in a nba game lebron is always double teamed triple teamed so in essence bowen isn't guarding him one on one.

Unprecedented for a 36 year old to be running up and down the court with the NBA's best players and shutting them down defensively throughout the 2007 playoffs. A) Bowen is notorious for the move but it is normally during a jumpshot. A guy takes a shot and bowen will do little to contest the shot so to stay on the ground and will then slid his foot underneth the shooter, the result is that sometimes the shooter comes down funny and possibly gets injured. Time and time again this has happened....and yet no action taken...ESPN sport center even did a segment on it and showed that he did over and over again. But nothing will happen because the Spurs are the NBA's trophy team with the NBA's trophy player Duncan. I take nothing away from the spurs...they are a great team and i feel they will win it all again but sometimes they through the dirt with the best of them. Bowen i do feel is an extreamly dirty player...he is resonsible for more twisted ankles from his DIRTY...uhh...i mean "lockdown" defense then anyone else in the game and its digusting. You can totaly see thats it is intentional...why has nothing been done? Kobe gets suspended for flayling his arm on a follow through on a play that was'nt even called a foul and gets suspended one game with no prior warnings...just one and done. The NBA is about mind games, and the Spurs have "cleanly", and by cleanly I mean within the rules except for kneeing Nash in the groin, beaten the Suns into submission this series because the NBA has allowed it to happen. As a result the frustration overflowed the other night and when Horry hip checked Nash, Amare was gonna go pound on him, and I've seen the replays so many times that I'm convinced Amare was making a b-line for Horry he doesn't even glance in Nash's direction but is staring straight at Horry's turned back. The Spurs are very good at this though, and mainly because of Bowen.

Q) To me it seems like there are alot of casual NBA fans jumping on the Bowen Bandwagon. Sure he did a good job defending LeBron...but watching from a neutral point of view, it was a TEAM defensive effort. They cut off driving lanes for him as a TEAM, doubling and triple teaming him all night. I'll give him credit, he's a pretty good defender but one on one there's no chance Bowen can guard LeBron BY HIMSELF.

A) Sure, but there are lots of devoted, knowledgeable fans on the Bowen bandwagon, too. He's never won Defensive Player of the Year, but over the past decade or so he's been a solid contender. The fact that he's guarding LeBron is no fluke -- Popovich knows exactly what he's doing. You're right -- good defense is team defense. But successful defensive setups still need a core defender assigned to the opposing team's best scorer.
